I was looking at Acer and HP but when I found this one it was not contest. I was looking for a long battery life, but wanted decent speed/power. Overall Review: Overall, I am really enjoying this laptop. Pros: Long battery life, light for size class, decent speed, smartlogon face recognition (cool and geeky at the same time), little bloatware vs other makers (HP anyone?), instant boot works but if you use hibernate might not be used, nice solid build quality, run cool on your lap, very very quiet (except DVD drive)Ĭons: trackpad boundaries take a bit getting used to (no boundaries, just a bunch of dimples where the pad area is), also trackpad is sensitive to palm brushes (takes a bit of getting used to, haven't tweaked it yet) trackpad button is very stiff on mine (hopefully will "break in" and not break,
Even brick and mortar stores have allowances of returns due to physical damage, within reason. Not sure of durability of this product, or the customer support. Does a product that can be turned on and functions constitute a "good" product, regardless of physical condition? Are casing defects part of manufacturing defects?Ģ. Both Newegg and ASUS cover hardware/software malfunctions, but the fine print EXCLUDES "phyiscal damage".ġ. Is it poor quality control, poor design or inadequate packaging? The jury is still out. Trying to rationalized how the damage occurred at the INSIDE of the notebook packaged in their original box, unopened, AND, inside Neweggs carton! Well, it's not.ĪSUS say it's due to shipping damage. Trying to obtain resolution, thinking it's straight forward.

Found crack at hinge of screen panel (plastic), hard to see because of black on black. Materials of construction-Exterior: aluminum, interior: plastic. Screen very reflective, have to adjust according to backlighting conditons.ģ. Have to open from center of screen panel to keep from flexing thin panel.Ģ. Design suppose to keep notebook closed makes opening a two handed affair. (** But then make do with your 2 hour battery**) If you do your homework, you can get Win7 to rocket through it's boot- making the splashboot thing not very necessary.- still cool to show off to others though.Ĭons: Not a high power core 2 duo, not top of the line performance- but if you want that, get one with a dedicated graphics card and hi-po processor. The "splashboot" system on it (it's another power button that basically boots up a tiny linux OS with browser, music player, skype, etc) Works very well- about 8 seconds to browse from a cold start, but double that and your regular OS is ready.
I've purchased 30 or so laptops in the last couple years, and this one is my fave- and it's not even going to me mine- 2 year warranty tells you they are serious about building quality.
